ABOUT

Mario Espinoza - 23 - 5'11 - Latino - Queer

Based in the "Evergreen State" of Washington, Mario Espinoza made his theatrical debut at the innocent age of 6 years old. Ever since then he has been working in many productions in his youth and is always looking to tell stories with generous and impassioned collaborators. He is enthusiastic to refine his craft to become an actor, storyteller and vessel of sorts in both the evocative mediums that are film and theatre. Along with his expression for modeling for local photographers in the Pacific Northwest, he has portrayed the likenesses of the macho and immature Miles in SHE KILLS MONSTERS by Qui Nguyen, The ever-so charming Prince Christopher in Rodgers and Hammerstein's CINDERELLA, he also has played rounds as the fortuitous and stoic Marco in A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE. And for something unorthodox; the romantic Juliet in William Shakespeare's ROMEO & JULIET.

Below you'll find media related to the above mentioned, along with various photos of the different projects Mario has worked on in recent years.

Artist Statement

My approach to storytelling is studying a role or piece methodically but with fluidity. When it comes to theatre, I have fallen in love with studying the obstacles and stakes of a character, helping me empathize with their situation and choices they make. This practice allows me to show my own interpretation of what drives them, while sticking true to the text. Consistent open conversation with collaborators, talking through events, time and detail are all crucial tools within my process.  Figuring out the nuances on why a character makes decisions is what helps me truly commit to those intentions. Within performing on the stage or screen that is truly the most beautiful part of storytelling in my experience.

I am determined to contribute a fresh perspective to the projects I am a part of. Queer Latinx voices are under-represented in the theatre and film community. I am committed to change that by bringing my experiences and the stories of those like me to the stage and screen. I hope to be a role model for young children with my background. Growing up in a society or in families that seem to believe they can not amount to anything is an incredibly disheartening reality amongst my generation and the ones younger than I and what is even more heartbreaking is that these young people start to believe it. I refuse to let that continue. My mission is to help others believe in the possibility of happiness for themselves. Sometimes that is just what a human needs. One of the roles I play in my community is quite simply a human with a heart, who wants to boost others when they have moments of doubt and don't believe that their unique perspectives have any value. I will always encourage the people around me to be authentic and available while appreciating the true beauty that is the gift of life, no matter how tumultuous it may be. I believe and have been told that my work can and has inspired that in others.
